UCL Champions League final UEFA Champions League
UEFA Champions League

Currently, there are two leagues which are maintained by the UEFA – the Champions League and the Europa League.

But if reports are to be believed then the governing body for football in Europe is planning to add a third European League.

According to Sport Bild, UEFA are planning to introduce a third European League with 32 teams from all across Europe by 2021.

The idea is still in the development stages which is why the new league does not have a name but as per the news, the new league will impact not hugely impact the current leagues.

The Champions League will remain unaffected and will continue to function as it has been doing but the Europa League will see a slight change as the number of teams will be reduced from 48 to 32.

This is basically being done in order to accommodate the smaller UEFA nations under the umbrella and also to make the Europa League a more sophisticated tournament.

Currently, the Europa League is the second tier of European football but it does not get as much coverage as the Champions League primarily because the  Europa League consists of big as well as very small clubs.

And UEFA are trying to fix this problem by introducing a third league which will be the third tier of European football.

This idea was first tabled back in 2015 and as per the report, UEFA plan to introduce it in 2021. So clearly the governing body for football in Europe is making sure that the idea is absolutely full proof.
