West Ham United have been busy in the transfer market this summer and according to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Premier League side wants to make Tammy Abraham their next major signing.

The Hammers have already spent around €45 million on the signing of 10 new players and as per the report, the club is currently engaged in talks with AS Roma for the 26-year-old.

Tammy Abraham has been with Roma since 2021 and in these three years, he has played 120 games for the club. He had picked up a cruciate ligament injury in June 2023 and since then the forward has not been the same. However, the Englishman seems to have no shortage of takers because at the start of the summer, AC Milan were linked with him and now, West Ham United wish to bring him on board.

Do WHUFC need to sign Tammy Abraham?

Last season, Tammy Abraham played in only 12 games across all competitions for Roma and his time in Italy can be termed an overall failure. In his first season in the Serie A, he scored 27 goals but in the following two seasons, Tammy Abraham scored only 10 goals across all competitions.

That ligament injury seems to have knocked the wind out of him and the current campaign will be make or break for Abraham.

The 26-year-old is really off the pace at the moment so we don’t understand why WHUFC wants to invest €30-40 million on him.

Also, the club has brought in Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of €27 million and apart from the summer signing, Julen Lopetegui also has Michail Antonio and Danny Ings. Neither Ings nor Antonio will be sold this summer so we don’t see why the manager will want to add a fourth striker to his squad. Last season, Fullkrug had 16 goal contributions in 46 appearances for Dortmund so he is more than capable of leading the line for West Ham.

A couple of years ago when Tammy Abraham was playing for Chelsea, he would have been a very good choice for the Hammers However, given the deterioration he has gone through, we don’t think the London side should consider a move for the 26-year-old.
