Arsenal have made a shortlist of three midfielders but according to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners are currently focusing on Youri Tielemans.

The Gunners have been keeping tabs on Wolves’ Ruben Neves and also Arthur Melo but according to the Italian transfer expert, Arsenal have made a good head-start in signing the Leicester City man.

Tielemans has one year left on his current deal so getting him will be a lot easier and even Leicester City are willing to sell him – if a club is ready to meet their value.

He wrote for CaughtOffSide: “The priority as of now goes to Youri Tielemans.

“Arsenal has already started contacts with the player’s camp for weeks and Tielemans is considered an opportunity on the market because he will not sign a new contract with Leicester City.”

Should Arsenal stop chasing Arthur and Ruben Neves?

Arsenal had tried to sign Arthur Melo in January but somehow that deal did not go through and since they need a new central midfielder, the club has just re-registered their interest in him.

He’s played only 962 minutes of league football this past season so we don’t think the Juventus man is the right candidate to become Thomas Partey’s partner next season.

Ruben Neves, on the other hand, is a very good player but Wolves are reluctant to let him leave. Wolves’ technical director Scott Sellar has insisted the club are trying their best to hold onto the midfielder.

He told the media: “Ruben’s a top player. Ruben’s been fantastic this season and I think showed again his quality, also I think showed how happy he is here. So I think that’s something we as a club know as well.

“The ideal situation is we want him to stay, and I’ve spoken to him about it. But I’m also realistic that when you’ve got an outstanding player then the top clubs are going to come and try to see what the situation is. Again, it will be discussed, and what’s right for the club, and will certainly be something we’ll look at.”

We don’t think Arsenal are going to pitch their interest in Arthur or Neves but undoubtedly, Youri Tielemans is the most uncomplicated target amongst all of them.

Is Youri Tielemans going to be a good signing for Arsenal?

The midfielder is available for a very lucrative price and at the same time, he has loads of experience in the Premier League. He’s played more than 150 games for the Foxes and will need no time to settle down at the Emirates.

Tielemans has been missing out on European football for a couple of seasons but with Arsenal, he will be able to play in the Europa League which is the next step up for him.

Looking at all the other options, Youri Tielemans is without a doubt the most bargain defensive midfielder in the market at the moment. Arteta would have loved to go for a Kalvin Phillips or Declan Rice but these midfielders are way out of his reach at the moment.
