This week Arsene Wenger has made it very clear that he has no intentions of selling Alexis Sanchez. He has refused to sell his star player even if that means that letting him go on a free transfer next season.

Sanchez has twelve months left on his current contract and is yet to sign a new one. And by the looks of it, he will not be signing a new contract. So come the next season Wenger might very well see the Chilean walking out of the Emirates without getting a penny for it.

But Wenger is definitely not sitting with folded hands waiting for that day. He has already started weighing in his other options. And one of them definitely is Riyad Mahrez. According to reports, Arsenal have made a bid for the Algerian winger which has been swiftly turned down by Leicester City.

Wenger has been a long term admirer of the winger and had tried to sign the player last season. And now it looks as if the hopes have been rekindled. But the bid is said to be below the asking price and the Foxes are in no mood to negotiate.

Arsenal’s bid has reportedly been in the region of €30 million while Leicester are not willing to take anything less than €46 million for their 26-year-old winger.

The Football Fan Base view:

Wenger knows very well that it will be next to impossible to make Sanchez sign a new contract and in such a scenario he will have to look at his other options. But having said that, it will not be easy to sign Mahrez.

The Algerian is tied with the Foxes up until 2020, which gives Craig Shakespeare a major upper hand in the transfer.
