Arsenal successfully put their Europa League disappointment behind them as they beat West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Sunday. And this win means the Gunners are once again back on the 9th spot on the table.

The win will obviously do very little to booth the mood at the club but Mikel Arteta has hinted that a few other small successes before the end of this season could bring back some joy amongst the followers as well as the players.

The first one is to try and finish above North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and then possibly try and secure a place in the European Conference League.

“It was a needed victory,” Arteta told Arsenal.com. “It took us two days to get through the disappointment from Thursday but we had to show the real attitude today and the desire to win the remaining few games.

“I think we’ve done that and had periods where we were really positive in attacks. We created many chances and scored three wonder goals. But then as well when we conceded the goal, we looked nervous. I think we should do better.

“That’s another[finishing above Spurs on the league table] motivation and we know that it’s very important as well. But we can only control our results and at the moment we cannot control theirs. What we have to do is win our matches.

“Obviously with the results that have to be related to this football club, it’s to win the Premier League[not to only qualify for the Conference League], it’s to win the Europa League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. We haven’t done any of that. But we have done many different things.”

Arsenal are setting smaller goals with each passing day but even then their players cannot seem to live up to those heights. Right now, Spurs are four points above them on the table so it will be really tough for Arsenal to catch up with them because they still have one major game coming up.

Mikel Arteta’s side face Chelsea in midweek and if they are to finish above Spurs and try and qualify for the ECL then they have to pick up all three points from this match. Or else, Arsenal are likely to finish the season as a mid-table team.

Tottenham Hotspur should be confident enough of fending off the challenge from their local rivals but Ryan Mason’s side still have to face Wolves and Leicester City. And given how they were battered by Leeds United last weekend, Mikel Arteta will not be losing hope so soon.
