Arsenal are planning to invest in a new striker next year and according to todofichajes, the Premier League side are looking at Lille’s Jonathan David.

The Gunners have made some very good signings during the previous transfer window and they plan to continue their spending next summer as well.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been linked with several centre-forwards over the past fortnight and Jonathan David happens to be the newest name on the list.

The report claims: “Arsenal will try to release Alexandre Lacazzette this winter and will immediately get involved in hiring Jonathan David.

“In principle, En-Nesyri was the first option to reinforce the front but the high pretensions of Sevilla have caused them to divert the spotlight from him.

“The Gunners have been following his developments closely for some time and seem determined to tackle his signing. In London they know that several greats are after him and do not want to lose a goal again at the last minute.”

Can Arsenal get their hands on Jonathan David?

David joined Lille from Gent last year for a transfer fee of £24.30 million so in theory, the French club are in no hurry to cash in on him.

But his current valuation is £31.5 million and if an interested club is willing to match that amount then we don’t think Lille will create too much of a fuss.

The Canadian international has netted six goals in nine Ligue 1 matches and since he’s just 21 years old, he fits perfectly into Mikel Arteta’s rebuilding plans.

But having said that, we don’t think David is high on Arteta’s wishlist and Arsenal will move for him only if they fail to land their primary targets.

Arsenal have been linked with players like Andrea Belotti, Calvert-Lewin and Ollie Watkins and these forwards are way above the pecking order than Lille’s Jonathan David.

The North London side had already made a huge gamble by signing Nicolas Pepe from Ligue 1 a few seasons ago so the club will think a thousand times before spending money on a youngster like David.
