Next Newcastle United manager Unai Emery

The Arsenal fans had prepared themselves for a major overhaul this season given they had a new manager at the club after decades of services from Arsene Wenger.

Last season, the Gunners hit a new low under their French manager as they failed to qualify for the Champions League following which the management decided to bring in former PSG boss Unai Emery as their new manager.

And the Spaniard’s first big job was to take Arsenal back to playing in the Champions League.

But the new boss has done much more than that as the North London club are currently on a 22 game unbeaten streak and theoretically they are still challenger for the league title.

So what is Unai Emery doing that Arsene Wenger had failed to do for the past decade at the Emirates?

Well, according to former Gunner Robert Pires, Unai Emery is a more expressive manager as compared to the French legend.

‘Maybe this is one of the differences between Wenger and Emery,” Pires said.

‘But management is very difficult, you need to find a good communication with the players. Sometimes Arsene is more quiet, Unai Emery is more – how do you say? – expressive.

‘I know Unai because of when he used to manage Sevilla and especially Paris Saint-Germain.

‘He is a winner, he has won a lot of titles: the Europa League with Sevilla, Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain.

‘I think he’s put a good spirit inside the dressing room. I think Arsenal have found a new face, maybe with a new philosophy because this guy is like a warrior.

‘You can see him when he’s on the bench: he’s a little bit crazy but good crazy.

‘He wants to help, every minute, the players. You need to talk, you need to have good communication with the players. I think this is a new thing for them, but a good thing.’

Arsenal will get back into the Premier League this weekend when they take on Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium.
