Arsenal are about to wrap up the signing of midfielder Fabio Vieira from Porto, as per David Ornstein.

He wrote for The Athletic: “Arsenal are close to signing attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira from Porto in a deal worth up to €40 million, The Athletic understands.”

Signing a new midfielder is a top priority for Mikel Arteta and the signing of the 22-year-old is the first step toward completion of that goal.

The midfielder is managed by Jorge Mendes and he will fly to London on Thursday night in order to complete his medical so we are expecting Arsenal to wrap up this transfer by the weekend. The €40 million fee is split into €35 million basic plus €5 million in bonuses and he will be signing a five-year deal with the North London club.

Who is Fabio Vieira?

Fabio is primarily an attacking midfielder who can also play in a more central role and in the previous season he made 39 appearances for Porto, scoring seven goals and providing 16 assists.

He is a product of the Porto academy and is also a regular for the Portugal U21 team.

Apart from playing as a No 10 and as a central midfielder, the 22-year-old can also play as a centre-forward and this is a big plus for the Gunners.

Are Arsenal no longer interested in signing Youri Tielemans?

Fabio Vieira is a No 10 whereas Tielemans is a proper central/defensive midfielder so Arsenal are still very much chasing the Belgian international.

The Gunners are the favourites to land the Leicester City midfielder and they are confident that they will be able to secure the signing before the end of this month.

Leicester City are ready to cash in on Tielemans and once a transfer fee is agreed upon, it will only be a matter of time before the 25-year-old moves to the Emirates Stadium.
