Willian playing for Chelsea

Arsenal signed Brazilian winger Willian as a free agent from London rivals Chelsea and now the player has revealed why he chose to pen a three-year deal at the Emirates outfit.

Willian told The Sun, as reported: “One of the reasons I wanted a three-year deal was to be part of a plan, not just a player passing through.

“When I talked with the manager he told me why he needed me for three years.

“It was that he first wanted to qualify for the Champions League and win it by the time I left. That was what I wanted to hear.

“I was at Chelsea for seven years and won everything except the Champions League.

“Hopefully this move will give me the trophy I haven’t got as well as another Premier League title.”

Arsenal finished eighth on the Premier League table last season and they managed to get into Europe only via a domestic tournament.

And to be honest, the kind of state that the club is in right now, it might take much more than three years for Arsenal to be rubbing shoulders with the big boys once again.

Obviously Mikel Arteta will be aiming for a top-four finish by the end of the 2020-21 season but the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United have been improving at a much rapid pace.

Chelsea have already spent a considerable amount of money in the transfer market this summer while Man United are also ready to bring in players like Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are working on a very limited budget this time around and as per reports, Mikel Arteta will have to heavily rely on player sales in order to accumulate the necessary transfer funds.
