Arsenal team news vs Newcastle United: Gabriel to replace David Luiz in defence?

Arsenal dropped points yet again in the EPL last week, drawing vs Crystal Palace but they will have the chance to redeem themselves when they take on Newcastle United on Monday.

The Gunners are undefeated in 17 of their last 18 matches against Newcastle in all competitions but the Magpies gave them a tough fight when these two sides met in the FA Cup 3rd Round last weekend.

We don’t expect a repeat of that performance since Newcastle United have not picked up points in their last five EPL matches and right now, they find themselves 15th on the league table with just 19 points.

The pressure in undoubtedly mounting on manager Steve Bruce and with Mikel Arteta getting back most of his first-team players from injuries, the Arsenal boss should be able to name his strongest XI, thereby picking up all three points.

Bernd Leno will remain in goal as he is the first-choice keeper for the Gunners but the defensive line in front of him should see a few shuffles.

Keiran Tierney is ruled out with an injury meaning Maitland-Niles will fill up the void at left-back with Hector Bellerin starting at right-back.

Gabriel remained on the bench vs Palace last week but the summer signing will come into the side, replacing David Luiz in central defence. Rob Holding will keep his place.

Thomas Partey came on as a second half sub against the Eagles but now that he has gotten some game time under his belt, the defensive midfielder is likely to start on Monday.

The return of Thomas will push Dani Ceballos back to the bench with Emile Smith Rowe and Granit Xhaka likely to keep their place in the starting line-up.

Willian and Nicolas Pepe have not been able to get game time in the EPL this season due to their poor form and once again it should be young Bukayo Saka who’s expected to operate on the right-hand side.

Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette will remain in the starting line-up with Gabriel Martinelli likely to miss out with an ankle injury. Even if the Brazilian teenager is deemed fit, he’ll at best find a place on the bench.
