Arsenal have once again hit a poor patch of form as they are winless in their previous four outings and this streak could very well be extended since they face Wolves in midweek.

The Gunners are just two points behind the fourth spot on the Premier League table but they need to buckle up and pick up wins if they wish to return to the Champions League. This will be easier said than done since Wolves have not tasted defeat in the previous five league games, winning four of those.

Arsenal are not going into this game as the favourites since they sold several players during the January window but haven’t been able to bring anyone in so Mikel Arteta currently has a really small squad. Thankfully, the Gunners are not playing in Europe so the manager does not have to rotate his players too often.

Bruno Lage’s side have momentum under their belt so there’s every chance that Wolves could hold Arsenal to a draw at Molineux or maybe even do one better. The North London side need to win this game at any cost if they wish to remain in the top-four hunt since anything other than a win could see them slide down to the 7th or even 8th spot on the table.

Arsenal team news vs Wolves:

Mikel Arteta surprisingly sent out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Pablo Mari, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Sead Kolasinac and Folarin Balogun in January but the club have failed to make any signings.

And the first major issue with such a thin squad will be faced immediately since Tomiyasu and Cedric are both injury doubts for Thursday’s game.

Tomiyasu is recovering from a calf injury while Cedric is out with a groin strain. Tomiyasu is likely to miss out vs Wolves but there’s a glimmer of hope that Cedric could be fit enough to start. Soares will go through a late fitness test in order to determine his availability.

If neither of them can make it then the Arsenal boss will have no other option but to use someone like Rob Holding or Ben White as the right full-back.

Elneny played in the AFCON final for Egypt so he is not expected to be ready in time for the Wolves vs Arsenal game meaning Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka will pair up in central midfield.

Nicolas Pepe has returned from international duty but he’s fallen way down the pecking order and right now Bukayo Saka is the first-choice down the right flank.

Emile Smith Rowe and Martinelli are both available to play on the left-hand side and it will be interesting to see whom the manager chooses.

Martin Odegaard will occupy the No 10 role and with Aubameyang and Balogun moving out last month, Lacazette is the obvious choice up front.

Arsenal’s possible absentees vs Wolves:

Mohamed Elneny – Returning late from AFCON – Likely to miss out.

Takehiro Tomiyasu – Calf Injury – Likely to miss out.

Cedric Soares – Groin Injury – Late fitness test.
