According to Italian publication Il Mattino, Arsenal are about to enter the race to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic – a player who is also on Manchester United’s radar.

United have not yet been able to sign Frenkie de Jong and as per multiple reports, Erik ten Hag is now viewing Milinkovic-Savic as the replacement for the Barcelona midfielder.

The Serbian midfielder joined Lazio in 2015 from Genk and over the years, he’s been a mainstay for the Serie A side, making close to 300 appearances for the club.

With his contract expiring in 2024 Lazio are willing to cash in on him and now with Arsenal also in the hunt, the Italians will be hoping to ignite a bidding war between the two Premier League clubs.

As per the report, Lazio are demanding around €55-60 million while Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the transfer fee needed to trigger a sale could be around €65m-70 million.

Will Arsenal be able to sign Milinkovic-Savic before Man United?

The 27-year-old is likely to demand around £ 120k per week from his new club and both Arsenal and Man United are more than capable of paying such an amount so agreeing on personal terms should not be a problem.

However, Savic’s contract expires in 2024 so Lazio can risk holding onto the midfielder for one more year and this means the interested clubs might have to pay a bit extra.

Now that Arsenal have joined Manchester United in this transfer race Lazio will be hoping to get much more value from the midfielder’s sale. His current market value is €70 million and with two of the biggest English clubs interested in him, there’s no way Lazio is going to let him leave for cheap.

Signing a central midfielder is very important for both Manchester United as well as Arsenal but the Gunners are also chasing Youri Tielemans(a player who’s available for around €35 million).

Arsenal have already spent a lot of money in the transfer market this summer so they will need to think long and hard before they are willing to pay almost double for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

As far as Man United are concerned they are still chasing Frenkie de Jong and unless that avenue is closed, we don’t think Ten Hag is going to make any concrete moves for the Serbian international.
