Arsenal suffered an embarrassing 3-0 loss at the hands of Liverpool in the Premier League and to make matters worse, Kieran Tierney as well as David Luiz picked up injuries during the weekend.

David Luiz missed Saturday’s game at the Emirates Stadium due to a knee injury and the manager has now revealed that the centre-back might be needing surgery to repair the damage.

The manager said, after the match: “We don’t know[if he needs surgery or not]. There a few possibilities on that, being a little more conservative with the treatment or having to go for a surgery. We are talking with the doctors at the moment to make the right decision on that but we’ll see. He could be out for a few weeks at least.

“I don’t know[if he will miss the rest of the season]. It will depend what the decision we take is. If it’s more conservative, it will be short-term. If it’s a bit more radical with what he needs, it will take longer.”

If the injury to David Luiz was not bad enough then left-back Kieran Tierney also picked up an injury during the first half of the Liverpool match and the Scottish international had to be replaced by Cedric Soares.

Speaking about Tierney’s injury, the manager said: “He felt something in his knee. He was in pain so it looks like he will be injured but we don’t know how long for.”

Kieran Tierney has been one of the best players in the Arsenal squad this season and if he is out for a lengthy period then it will bea  massive blow for the North London side.

Arsenal face Slavia Prague in the Europa League on Thursday and there’s a big chance that Tierney along with David Luiz are absentees for this game.

Luiz should not be missed too much since Mikel Arteta has adequate backup in the form of Pablo Mari, Rob Holding and Gabriel but if the left-back is not available then right-back Soares will once again have to play on the left-hand side of defence.

UPDATE ON DAVID LUIZ:

Arsenal have confirmed that David Luiz has undergone a small surgery on Sunday and he is expected to be back in action within the next couple of weeks.

The club have said: “David Luiz underwent a small procedure on his right knee on Sunday morning.

“The procedure has been a success and David is now back at home rehabilitating. He will be able to return to daily support and recovery with our medical team at the training centre in the coming days.

“David is expected to be back to full fitness and available for selection in the upcoming weeks.”
