Arsenal are looking to secure the signing of a central midfielder this month and as per The Athletic, Mikel Arteta is planning to make a move for Ruben Neves.

Neves has been a key figure in the Wolves’ midfield ever since his move to the club in 2017 and over these past four seasons, the 24-year-old has played close to 200 games for the club.

His performances have caught the attention of many big clubs, particularly Manchester United had been heavily linked with him all throughout the previous summer. The Gunners have also been mentioned in the past but this is perhaps the first time that a proper Tier 1 publication has mentioned their interest in the Portuguese international.

Will Arsenal be able to land Ruben Neves in the coming days?

90min have also quoted this Athletic report so surely there’s some truth to this interest but there are also big question marks on whether Arsenal will be able to sign him or not.

There’s no denying that someone like Neves will be a massive upgrade to Granit Xhaka but we doubt if Wolves will be ready to sell one of their most prized assets during the middle of the season.

Ruben Neves still has two more years left on his current deal so Wolves are under no pressure to cash in on him. Also, the Molineux outfit know for a fact that they will be able to get a lot more value for him if they sell him at the end of this season.

Man United were heavily linked with him last year but we don’t think the Red Devils will come calling for him this month. And this is another reason why Neves himself will not be too keen to move out.

The 24-year-old will want to access all his options before leaving Wolves and right now he wouldn’t want to join a team like Arsenal who are not playing in Europe.

He will more than happy to wait till the summer to see which Premier League sides qualify for the Champions League and maybe then make a call regarding his future.
