Arsenal are likely to finish as a mid-table side this season in the Premier League but things could get even worse if they cannot beat Chelsea this week.

The Gunners head to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night and this is going to be their last game against a big-six side this season. After this, Arsenal face Crystal Palace and then Brighton and Hove Albion.

Arsenal have been knocked out of the Europa League by Villarreal and are also not going to finish in the top five this campaign. So with nothing much to play for, Mikel Arteta has now urged his players to win against Chelsea just to honour the pride of the club.

But, in the same breath, the Gunners boss has also heaped praises on the Chelsea team and the work Thomas Tuchel has done in the past few months.

The manager said in his pre-match press conference: “Probably they’ve been the best team in the league in the last few months, what Thomas has been able to do since he arrived has been exceptional.

“He put the team in two finals, the way the team is looking, how solid they are defensively as well, how composed and regular they have been in their performance has been excellent.

“I think it is the pride in the shirt that we wear, and that we want to win. Winning is going to put us in a much better position in the table, which is going to make us… the chance to finish where is mathematically possible, but it doesn’t depend on us at the moment.

“We have made progress in many areas, I would say performance included, and that is supported by many factors that we have looked at. Results-wise, to be where we want to be, it has to be improved.”

It’s an uphill task for Arsenal to beat such a strong Chelsea side but even if they can manage to come out with a point from this match then it will be a job well done. The Gunners themselves cannot do much with three points but they can surely ruin Chelsea’s top-four party by denying them a win.
