Pundit names Mikel Arteta’s biggest signing of the summer: Couldn’t agree more

Arsenal forward Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is set to be a free agent next summer but rumours are ripe that the North London club have convinced him to sign a new deal at the club.

Over the past couple of months, Mikel Arteta has been fairly optimistic about the fact that Aubameyang will remain at the club beyond the ongoing transfer window.

‘I try to do my job, which is to convince him that he is in the right place, that he has the environment here to produce the moments like he’s done today and he’s done here three weeks ago,’ Arteta told BT Sport after Arsenal’s Community Shield win.

‘I am very positive that he’s going to sign but a lot of time there’s a lot of things involved in a contract deal and we are trying to show him.’

And now speaking about the prospect of Aubemayang putting pen on paper to the new deal, Ian Wright has claimed that this will be the best bit of business which Arteta will do this summer.

‘To be honest, I think he will be the most significant signing Mikel can make,’ Wright told Good Morning Britain, via Metro.

‘We do need to make that happen, simply because of what he brings to that team. When you look at the chances created for Arsenal, they were 16th in the league and he still scored the amount of goals he scored.

‘So if you can imagine, we can start creating more with the players we have signed – the Willians and people like that – then he is going to score more goals. It is imperative that he signs.’

Aubameyang is without a doubt the spine of the Arsenal first XI and he has shown his importance over the past couple of FA Cup and Community Shield matches.

The Gabon international is not only the highest goal-getter for the North London side but he is also the driving force for the club. And so if Arteta was to lose him this summer then all his progress in the transfer market so far might very well go to waste.
