If a report in SPORT is to be believed then Barcelona are planning to make their first formal move for midfielder Dani Olmo who is also wanted by Man United, Liverpool and Premier League champions Manchester City.
Dani Olmo had a release clause of €60 million which has just expired which is why Barcelona feel they will now be able to span him up for a cheaper fee. As per the reports, the Catalans are planning to make an offer of around €40-50 million for the Spanish midfielder.
Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City have all been keeping tabs on the Leipzig midfielder but while they are yet to make up their mind, Barcelona are hoping to use this time to gain some pace in this transfer race and secure Olmo’s move to Camp Nou.
Is Dani Olmo worth so much interest?
Dani Olmo was a youth product at Barcelona and it was in 2020 when he joined RB Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb. Since then, the attacking midfielder has played 148 games for the German side across all competitions.
Olmo is primarily a No 10 but he is also capable of playing as a winger and at times, he can also slot in as a centre-forward. This past season, the Spanish international played 15 games as a right-winger.
Last campaign, the 26-year-old had 9 goal contributions in 21 Bundesliga games with a passing accuracy of 79.6% and an xG of 3.38. In these 21 league matches, the midfielder created 32 chances and had an xA of 3.67.
These are pretty great numbers for a No 10 with a current market value of just €60 million. However, given Barcelona’s current financial situation, €60 million might be a lot of money but for the three Premier League clubs, this is nothing.
Clubs like Man United, Man City and especially Liverpool will be more than happy to outbid Barcelona and pay €60-70 million for Dani Olmo.
Will RB Leipzig accept €50 million for the midfielder?
Even though the €60 million release clause has expired, Leipzig are ready to accept a similar transfer fee for the midfielder.
Barcelona will be really testing the German side’s patience with a bid of just around €40-50 million but they stand absolutely no chance of sealing a deal with this meagre budget.
Olmo’s contract expires in 2027 so Leipzig are in no hurry to offload him and they know fully well that they will be able to bag a much higher price since three of the biggest Premier League clubs want him as well.
We have a feeling that Barcelona are just testing the waters with this initial bid because even they know that they are massively undervaluing a top player like Dani Olmo. Yes, Olmo would prefer to return to his boyhood club instead of a move to the Premier League but if Barcelona cannot match Leipzig’s valuation, the midfielder will not hesitate to snub the Catalans and hold talks with the other suitors.
