Croatia fought off hosts Russia in order secure a World Cup semi-final place where they will face England on Wednesday evening. And if they manage to win the semi-final then Modric and co will have the chance to play their first ever World Cup final.

The Vatreni fell behind during after the half-hour mark but they were back on level terms within 8 minutes thanks to a goal from Kramaric. After this both, the teams failed to score during the regulation 90 minutes after which the game went into extra-time.

And the extra-time too saw the same situation as both teams scored one goal apiece leaving the quarterfinal to be decided on penalties.

In the penalty shoot-out, Russia lost their nerves and Croatia ultimately came out on top.

And now Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic has given his prediction as to which two teams will ultimately the World Cup final on Sunday.

Rakitic has claimed that Croatia will progress to the World Cup final beating England while Roberto Martinez’s Belgium side will come out on top in the other semi-final.

Rakitic said: “When I shot the last penalty, I am thinking of my wife, my daughters, beautiful things … and all that is for them.

“We want to continue to enjoy the World Cup here, it costs every meter, it has been a very long season, it’s a great time, we have an impressive group and we have to push again, we do not want to stop at the semis, I expect Croatia-Belgium in the final.”

Croatia take on England in the second semi-final on Wednesday evening while the first semis will take place on Tuesday where France will face off against Belgium.

The World cup final will take place on Sunday afternoon.
