According to a report in Football Insider, Liverpool are planning to offload centre-forward Darwin Nunez during the upcoming summer transfer window.

There have been rumours that Nunez will follow Jurgen Klopp out of Anfield and these fears might come true when Arne Slot takes charge. Nunez has dropped hints in recent weeks that he wishes to leave Liverpool before the next season starts and his dream of playing for Barcelona could come true very soon.

Barcelona are looking at Darwin Nunez as the long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski but fellow La Liga side Atletico Madrid have also registered an interest in the 24-year-old as Simone looks for a long-term solution to the ageing Alvaro Morata.

Darwin Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica two years ago but the forward is yet to settle down properly at Anfield. Last season, he had scored 9 goals in 29 Premier League games and this time around, he’s managed to net just 11. Along with 33 goals across all competitions in these two seasons, the forward has also clocked in 17 assists.

Barcelona or Atletico, who has a better chance of landing Darwin Nunez?

These numbers are definitely not bad but Liverpool had paid around €85 million for the Uruguayan international and he’s definitely not been able to live up to the expectations.

Klopp still showed immense fate on Nunez but it looks like Arne Slot has other plans which is why Liverpool are ready to listen to offers.

This is great news for Barcelona because Darwin Nunez is one of the club’s summer priorities but they will struggle to pay the premium transfer fee that Liverpool are going to demand.

Nunez is valued at €70 million and his contract expires in 2028 so the EPL side can very easily ask for €90-100 million for the centre-forward. And the only way Barcelona can afford to pay such a steep price is if they can sell Lewandowski for an inflated price to a Saudi Pro League team.

If Barca can bring in around €60-70 million from Lewandowski’s sale only then can they think of landing the Liverpool forward.

Financially, Atletico aren’t better off either but Los Rojiblancos might be able to get the required money to make this transfer happen well before Barca. Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus is also on Atleti’s radar but given the Brazilian’s recent injury woes, Simone will be much better off signing Darwin Nunez.

Darwin Nunez wants to play for Barcelona but if he does not have at Liverpool then he won’t mind joining Atletico Madrid. The forward is clearly not happy at Anfield and his recent antics have given substantial evidence that his future lies outside of the Premier League.
