Manchester United are frantically trying to sign Frenkie de Jong but it’s an open secret that Barcelona are making life really difficult for them.

Erik ten Hag wants De Jong as his principle central midfield next season meaning he is the number one transfer target for Man United during the ongoing transfer window.

Frenkie de Jong had previously claimed that he is not ready to leave Barcelona but the Camp Nou outfit do not share the same feelings because they are in need of funds.

According to the transfer experts, FC Barcelona are more than willing to part ways with the 25-year-old but they will only do it for a substantial transfer fee.

United have already seen a bid rejected and according to Fabrizio Romano, Barca are only interested in a full upfront payment(something which Man United did not offer in their first bid).

He wrote on Twitter: “Manchester United and Barcelona have been in direct contact today for Frenkie de Jong. Still no agreement on the fee, as Barça told Man Utd they won’t sell FdJ for less than €86m.

“Barcelona want full fee guaranteed, also because of La Liga rules to reinvest money.”

Will Barcelona eventually agree to sell Frenkie de Jong?

A few years ago, Manchester United would have very happily agreed to Barca’s demands but their new management is very clear about what they want to do.

The likes of Richard Arnold are not ready to pay unnecessary money for any player which is why they are trying to close this Frenkie de Jong deal for as low a fee as possible. Their first bid was €65m + €20m in add-ons and we think their next offer will be slightly higher.

The Premier League side will be able to get their hands on the midfielder because he’s the one player whom Ten Hag wants at any cost and after Pogba and Matic’s exit, United badly need a new world-class midfielder.

Barcelona are in dire need of funds so there’s also a chance that they will eventually cave in and lower their demands.

A club like Manchester United are very much capable of paying €86 million without any add-ons but it looks like they want to be as economical as possible.
