Arsenal have already seen a bid for Ben White been rejected by Brighton and Hove Albion but David Seaman believes, the Gunners should see this one through.

Mikel Arteta is desperate to bring in a new centre-back after the departure of David Luiz and according to Seaman, the 23-year-old England international fits the memo perfectly.

The ex-Gunner told Goal: “He’s got everything [needed] to go and take hold of it and give it his best shot. He’s got the physique, he’s got the temperament. At Leeds it’s a high-press, high-tempo game, so his fitness is also not in doubt.

“The only question mark you can put on him is can he play in the big games? But we’ll just have to wait and see, because he’s not played in them yet.

“Hopefully he will go on and play for England and when he does that, hopefully he will carry on [with his development].

“Would he be a good signing for Arsenal? Of course he would because he’s a good player.”

In another interview, the keeper also went on to add that since Arsenal will not be playing in Europe next season, Mikel Arteta and the club’s management will not be able to attract the star players. And this why they will need to scout the bargain gems from the transfer market.

“People of that quality need to be coming to Arsenal,” Seaman told talkSPORT. “I think we’re going down that route of players where they have young, promising with careers ahead of them.

“The days of signing marquee players – that are right on it now – Arsenal will struggle with that as they’re not in Europe.

“The key players don’t just want to play in Europe, they want to play in the Champions League. At the moment, Arsenal are nowhere near that and they need to restructure their transfer policy.

“Arsene Wenger used to pick out people and he’d sign them and we’d asked: ‘Who’s that?’ Then they turned out to be Thierry Henry!”

Arsenal are not the only club who have registered an interest in Ben White since clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Man United have also been liked with the Brighton man.

But, at the same time, it’s the Gunners who have made the most effort to try and bring him on board and this is a clear sign that the other interested parties do not have Ben White as a top priority target.

The defender’s contract with Brighton expires in 2024 so the Seagulls are in no hurry to cash in on him. And maybe this is why they have already rejected a 40 million pound bid from Arsenal.

Now, either White himself will have to hand in a transfer request or Arsenal will have to dig deep into their pockets for this transfer to go through before the new Premier League season begins.
