Bengaluru FC beat Lajong in Fed Cup opener

Bengaluru FC kickstarted their Federation Cup campaign with a win against Shillong Lajong in Group B. The boys from Bengaluru won the match 3-2. The win was anything but easy.

Bengaluru FC started the match on slippery grounds as they almost went behind in the first minute of the match. But slowly they steadied the ship and got the first goal of the match through Udanta Singh in the 35th minute of the match. Singh’s long range effort took a big deflection and looped into the back of the net.

Eugeneson Lyngdoh gave Bengaluru FC the much needed second goal cushion in the 46th minute of the match. He scored a glancing header from the cross from Harmanjot Khabra.

Shillong Lajong got the golden opportunity to get back into the match after they were awarded a penalty in the 71st minute of the match. But Dipanda Dicka pulled off a Sergio Ramos like shot from the spot as the shot was miles away from the goal. Lajong clawed one goal ball after Yuta Kinowaki slotted the ball into the back of the net in the 72nd minute.

But Lajong scored an own goal in the 74th minute after their skipper bundled the ball into the back of their own net. Lajong were awarded a second penalty on the 84th of the match and this time Lalmuanpuia took charge of the penalty duty. He did not miss though and scored the second goal for Lajong.

But it was too late muster up any kind of a fightback and the match ended with a scoreline of 3-2 in favour of Bengaluru FC. With the win, Bengaluru FC are second in their group behind Mohun Bagan on goal difference. They play their next match against DSK Shivajians on the 10th of May.
