Bengaluru FC scored a last-gasp goal to win their second consecutive match in AFC Cup group stages. They won the match against Maldives side Maziya 1-0 to collect all three points. The win takes take to the top of the league with six points and above rivals Mohun Bagan.

Bengaluru FC are having a terrible season domestically but somehow that has not affected their Asian campaign. Blues coach Roca brought back Sunil Chettri, Lyngdoh and Lenny Rodrigues to the starting lineup. Bengaluru were on the front foot for most of the match but the scoresheet said a completely different story. Sunil Chettri’s men bombarded Maziya’s goal with numerous attacks but to no avail.

Udanta Singh had a shot saved by the Maziya goalkeeper in the 17th minute of the match. Defender Juanan got two good chances to put the Blues in the lead but failed to capitalize on both of them. His first volley was nowhere near the Maziya goal. While his second shot was more towards space than the back of the net.

It looked as if it was going to be a frustrating night for Bengaluru FC but eventually, they got their goal thanks to John Johnson in the dying minutes of the match. Johnson rose high above the defenders and headed the ball into the back of the net. The goal was basically due to an error from the Maziya keeper who decided to collect the ball in the box rather than to punch it away in a difficult situation.

The Blues are currently first in the league table with 6 points.

With three points in the bag, the Bengaluru boys decided to have some fun amidst the sun sea and sands of the beautiful Maldives.

They went for a recovery session at the beach and Chettri and his men looked in good spirits.

They decided to say goodbye to Maldives in their own unique fashion.
