Bernd Leno picked up a really nasty injury during Arsenal’s loss to Brighton in the Premier League this weekend and as per Goal, the keeper could be out of action for almost a year.

The shot-stopper landed awkwardly after being unnecessarily shoved by Brighton’s Neal Maupay and as the rumours, the German might have suffered serious ligament damage.

The report claims: “The Gunners boss has seen his summer strategy suffer a significant blow during the first week of the Premier League’s Project Restart.

“Project Restart is less than a week old and already the problems are stacking up for Mikel Arteta.

“Now Bernd Leno looks set for an extended spell on the sidelines after the horrible knee injury he sustained against Brighton on Saturday.

“The true extent of Leno’s injury has yet to be confirmed, but there are fears he has damaged the cruciate ligament in his left knee and could be facing up to a year out.

“That will be a hammer blow to Arteta ahead of a summer that was already shaping up to be an incredibly difficult one for Arsenal, as they attempt to overhaul a squad that is in desperate need of a rebuild.”

Bernd Leno a big miss for Arsenal?

Even if not a year, there’s no way Bernd Leno will play for Arsenal during the remainder of the season which as of now is great news for Southampton FC.

The Saints take on Arsenal at the St Mary’s in midweek and with Bernd Leno ruled out and the Gunners having a really shaky defence, the home will surely be looking to pick up all three points.

Cedric Soares, Pablo Mari, Chambers, David Luiz and Sokratis are also ruled out for this clash meaning Rob Holding and Mustafi will be central defence while Emi Martinez will play in goal.

Looking at the bigger picture if Bernd Leno is indeed ruled out for one full year, Arteta should be going out and buying a new keeper this summer. But we think the manager will promote Martinez as the club’s new No 1 next season.

Replacing Leno will need a fair amount of money and right now, the North London side just cannot afford to spend unnecessary amounts in the transfer market.
