Arsenal have signed Aaron Ramsdale during the summer transfer window and immediately there are whispers that Bernd Leno will be on his way out.

Leno has only one more year remaining on his contract and according to Tuttosport, he is most likely to join Inter Milan as a free agent next summer.

Mirror cites Tuttosport saying: “Bernd Leno is reportedly set to leave Arsenal on a free transfer at the end of this season following the signing of Aaron Ramsdale.

“The German goalkeeper remains No.1 choice under boss Mikel Arteta despite the club’s hefty outlay to bring in Ramsdale as cover.

“Arsenal’s swoop may have been for good reason, given Leno’s contract with the club is due to expire next summer.

“According to Italian publication Tuttosport, he has no intentions of signing an extension.”

Will Arteta stop Bernd Leno from leaving?

A couple of months ago, Bernd Leno had already hinted at a possible exit from Arsenal and maybe this is why the Gunners went ahead and spent so much money on Ramsdale.

“It is also clear that at some point in my career I want to do something different,” he told said back in May.

“So far I’ve played for two clubs. Maybe I’ll get the urge to play in another league again. Maybe in the south. But there is time, I’m still getting to the top goalkeeping age.”

A lot of questions were raised as to why the Gunners spent so much money on Ramsdale. But now that we know the answer, the transfer seems much more logical.

The 29-year-old has conceded nine goals in three Premier League matches this season and it’s only a matter of time before Mikel Arteta pushes him down the pecking order.

Arteta has no use of Bernd Leno anymore but he’s only starting because Ramsdale is still trying to fit into the club.
