Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly ready to part ways with goalkeeper Bernd Leno this summer as the manager looks to bring in a more steady and consistent No 1.

The Mirror claim: “Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is open to selling Bernd Leno this summer if the Emirates recruitment team can find him a new No.1.

“Leno’s form has been good but not great since he arrived three years ago.

“And Arteta knows he needs a more consistent goalkeeper if his side are going to challenge for the top four again. Gunners scouts have been compiling reports on potential targets, with Arteta hoping to bring more stability to his defensive unit.”

And right when this report surfaced, the rumour mill is ripe with claims that the Premier League side have resumed their interest in Ajax keeper Andre Onana.

Onana recently saw his doping ban reduced meaning he can resume training from September and according to Goal, the Gunners are planning to make a move for the 25-year-old.

Goal claim: “Arsenal are now expected to step up their interest in Onana, which was first revealed by Goal in April.

“The Gunners’ interest in Onana stretches back to January when contact was made between the north London club and the player’s representatives.

“Arsenal believe an offer in the region of £7 million ($9.7m) could be enough to tempt the Eredivisie champions into doing business.”

Bernd Leno has been a pretty steady keeper for Arsenal in these past three years but Mikel Arteta clearly believes he needs an upgrade for the upcoming season.

Andre Onana has been a really solid keeper for Ajax but we doubt if he will be able to bring anything new to the Arsenal side, should be chosen as the next No 1 by the Gunners manager.

Mikel Arteta has other much more important areas to sort out and we think he should try and save every penny possible and used to bring the absolutely necessary players this summer. The manager will have a very limited budget since the Gunners do not have any European football to look forward to next year.

Spending £7 million on Andre Onana makes no real sense when Bernd Leno has been doing the job really well up until now.
