Billy Gilmour is predicted to leave on yet another loan deal and SPFL side Rangers FC have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old.

The youngster has had a disappointing loan spell with Norwich City and Thomas Tuchel might look to send him out once again so that he can get more first-team experience.

However, David Edgar of the Heart and Hand podcast has cleared the air, claiming that a move to Ibrox is highly unlikely for Billy Gilmour because the 20-year-old does not want a loan deal once more.

“There has been a lot of chat about Billy Gilmour potentially coming to Rangers on loan,” claims David Edgar, speaking on the Heart & Hand.

“Well I can tell you that it’s not something like you may have seen on social media, things saying ‘done deal’, there’s absolutely no truth in that. I know his family quite closely down here in Ayrshire, and trust me, they’d be keen to tell us if that was the case.

“He’ll return to Chelsea after his loan with Norwich City and if Thomas Tuchel can’t offer him more game time the likelihood is he will head out permanently. He doesn’t really want to do another loan if he’s got no chance of making it at Chelsea.

“I think the fee would be prohibitive for Rangers if we were going to go in for him and that’s over and above whether the player wanted to come back to Scotland or wanted to stay in the EPL where he does have offers.”

Where will Billy Gilmour end up next season?

Billy Gilmour is a player of immense talent so even if he wants a permanent move, Chelsea will never agree to that. The Blues will likely send him out on another loan arrangement but he is expected to remain in the Premier League.

Several Premier League clubs have shown interest in the midfielder and if he ultimately wants to succeed at Chelsea then he has to get stay in the English top division.

If Chelsea decide to sell him off then Rangers have no chance whatsoever but even in case of a loan deal, their chances are slim. Billy Gilmour has very good ties with his boyhood club but the Gers are way down the pecking order.

At Ibrox, Gilmour will definitely get to play week-in-week-out but the level of competition is very different in Scotland as compared to the Premier League. Given his connections with the club, Billy Gilmour will be linked with Rangers all throughout the summer but we believe a deal(loan or permanent) is not going to materialize.
