Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour has been a revelation this season but the midfielder will be unavailable for selection when the Blues take on Sheffield United in the Premier League on Saturday.

In fact, the 19-year-old has undergone an operation this week and according to Frank Lampard, he will not play any more part for the remainder of the season.

Talking about Billy Gilmour, the manager said, as per Football 365: “Billy Gilmour has had an operation on his knee this morning, so he will be out we estimate somewhere between three and four months, unfortunately.

“I’m obviously very disappointed as we all are here and of course Billy himself. I spoke with him yesterday at length, and giving him support. He’s a tough boy, it hit him hard especially as a young boy who has just made a breakthrough.

“But I told him he should be very pleased with what he’s done and the impact he’s had this season anyway. His attitude will get him back as quickly as he can.

“His character for me is fantastic, particularly with his age, to get himself around the first-team squad and push himself into the team.

“I’m sure he’ll do everything right, put in the work and the rehab, and he has a very close-knit family around him who will help. But we’re his family too, so we’ll be there for him.

“Hopefully it will cover a period of the close season and into pre-season, so hopefully he’s not missing as many games as he might have done.”

This is really bad news for the youngster since he has seen a rapid rise to the senior team over the past couple of months and on occasions, he has even been the first-choice defensive midfielder for Frank Lampard.

But this untimely injury is a window of opportunity for Jorginho to try and reclaim his place in the starting XI.

Along with Billy Gilmour, N’Golo Kante is also set to miss out against Sheffield United due to a hamstring injury meaning Jorginho is more or less a guaranteed starter at Bramall Lane.

The Italian is yet to be named in the starting XI since the resumption but now with Billy Gilmour, Kante and even Kovacic out of action, this the perfect opportunity for Jorginho to win the faith of his manager once again.
