Premier League side Arsenal have been linked with Rangers FC left-back Borna Barisic who also happens to be an interest for Leeds United.

Borna Barisic has been a stellar figure in the Rangers squad over the past few seasons and as per the latest reports, a host of top English clubs are keen to get their hands on him.

Football Insider claimed on Sunday: “Arsenal, Aston Villa and Wolves are set to assess Rangers star Borna Barisic in action for Croatia against England today, Football Insider understands.

“A recruitment source has told Football insider that talent spotters from Arsenal, Villa and Wolves are compiling dossiers on Barisic and will watch him for his country during the Euros.”

Why do Arsenal want Borna Barisic?

Leeds United have a long-standing interest in Borna Barisic and Noel Whelan has made it clear that a player like him could become a mainstay in Bielsa’s squad.

“He’s an established player who has played very well for his club side,” Whelan recently said.

“You look at successful teams like Rangers and about players being noticed. When you win titles as emphatically as Rangers did, you get looked at. There will be loads of teams interested in him I’m sure. It doesn’t surprise me to hear Arsenal and Villa are looking at him.

“He’s just had a fantastic season, scoring goals, getting assists and keeping clean sheets. He ticks every single box. He gets up, he can defend, he’s a threat and he fits the style of play at Leeds United.”

It’s not a surprise that teams like Aston Villa and Wolves have joined the race but it’s a bit surprising that Arsenal have also been linked with the Croatian international when they already have a player like Kieran Tierney amongst their ranks.

Tierney has taken his time to hit his peak form in the Premier League but right now, he is one of the top players for Mikel Arteta. So we can’t understand why the Gunners will want to make a move for the Rangers man.

A club like Arsenal have the financial might to sign Borna Barisic this summer but with so many major problematic areas to solve, we doubt if Arteta will want to spend unnecessary money on the Rangers left-back.

During the 2020/21 season, Borna Barisic played in 30 Premiership games for the Gers and he is also part of the Croatian squad for the current European Championship.
