Man United had the chance to sign defensive midfielder Boubacar Kamara last month but the Premier League side chose not to follow up with this particular deal.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Marseille had offered the 22-year-old’s services to Manchester United but the Red Devils’ management chose not to make an official offer.

Romano told the latest Here We Go podcast: “Manchester United were offered the opportunity to sign Boubacar Kamara in the last days of the window but they turned down this chance because they will invest more money for the new manager. They want to wait and see what’s best.”

Who is Boubacar Kamara?

Boubacar Kamara is a defensive midfielder by trade and has come up through the ranks at Marseille. To date, the 22-year-old has played in 148 games for the Ligue 1 club.

He’s an upcoming and promising talent who has been scouted by several top European clubs and as per some other reports, the French side were ready to part ways with the midfielder for just £10 million.

So far this season, Kamara has scored one goal in 19 Ligue 1 games and has a rating of 7.12 out of 10 which is really great for someone who’s just 22 years old.

Why didn’t Man United sign Boubacar Kamara?

In December, The Athletic had claimed that Man United were interested in signing Boubacar Kamara so it has been a shock to some that they did not sign the midfielder when given the opportunity.

Especially at just £10 million, he would have been a perfect buy but it’s clear what Manchester United are planning to do.

The board will bring in a new manager at the end of this season and it’s then when United are planning to spend all their transfer budget. They were not ready to make any unwarranted signings during the middle of the season and then carry them as burdens for two or three years.

Several reports are claiming that despite needing a defensive midfielder badly, Man United did not sign anyone in January because they want to go all out and sign Declan Rice in the summer.

West Ham United had no plans to let Rice leave during the middle of the season and if Man United can secure a Champions League spot then they want to sign the best defensive midfielder for the next campaign.

Man United are not the only side who are interested in signing Declan Rice since Chelsea also hold a substantial interest so the Old Trafford outfit will have to fight a fierce battle if they wish to sign the England international.
