Scottish Premiership club Rangers FC have agreed on a pre-contract with Leicester City’s 20-year-old left-back Calvin Bassey.

After agreeing on the deal, Bassey told Rangers TV, as reported: “I am really excited. Rangers are a massive club and I am just buzzing to get started. Ever since Rangers were in the picture speaking to my agent, I was really excited. They were one of the clubs I thought highly and I can’t wait to get started.

“I feel Rangers is the best place for me because I have seen players like Joe Aribo come from south of the border and do so well.

“Obviously I appreciate everything Leicester have done for me. I just feel Rangers are offering me a massive platform for me to take my career to the next level and showcase my ability to the world.

“I have played Rangers at Ibrox before. Obviously the stadium was empty, it was just a friendly, but I could feel the raw atmosphere and the history and the presence of people when nobody was there. It was a good experience and I just can’t wait to play there when it’s a full stadium.”

The player is primarily a left-back but according to Alan Hutton, Gers boss Steven Gerrard might have plans to use the 20-year-old in multiple roles next season.

Hutton told Football Insider“It was a definite must, they needed somebody to come in. At 20-years-of-age he’s definitely one for the future but I’ve heard he can also play left centre-half. There are options there.

“I’ve watched some clips of him and seen what he’s about, he looks big and strong, decent pace about him so he’s got all the attributes to be a modern-day full-back. He looks really exciting, looks like he loves driving forward and making things happen.

“I think it’s a win-win with the fee being so low and him being so young, it’s a great deal that Rangers have got. This is the thing with the players moving across the border, the fees are relatively low.

“I’m sure all the fans have looked him up and are really excited to see him play.”

At Leicester City, Calvin Bassey has played in central defence a couple of occasions but before the Gers manager can decide on using him in that role, Gerrard will have to watch him in action during the summer.

And as per the latest reports, this might be a bit of a problem since the Teddy Bears may not be able to complete the signing of Calvin Bassey until August due to uncertainty over the opening of the Scottish transfer window.

If this holds true then the Rangers boss will have no time to examine the strengths and weakness of Calvin Bassey since the Scottish club will also have to indulge in the Europa League qualifying games before the 2020/21 season kicks off.
