Arsenal have been linked with Celtic centre-forward Odsonne Edouard and according to pundit Chris Sutton, the player can emulate Virgil Van Dijk at the Emirates.

“French striker is going to the very top just like van Dijk and he’s been sensational,” Sutton told Daily Record. “The striker can do everything. He links the game, he makes runs, he creates and he is a quality finisher.

“Edouard really assumed the mantle of responsibility as Lennon chased the nine last season and delivered in emphatic style for his boss and team.”

Can Odsonne Edouard emulate Van Dijk?

Van Dijk made his name while playing for Celtic between 2013 and 2015 and it was in 2018 that he moved to Liverpool. And since then, Liverpool’s defence has not been the same.

Van Dijk is easily the best centre-back in world football right now and Sutton feels Odsonne Edouard can have the same sort of impact at the Emirates in the years to come.

Edouard has scored 21 goals and assisted 12 more goals in the Premiership this season so the youngster is loaded with potential. But whether Arsenal can get their hands on the forward remains to be seen.

Apart from the North London side, Newcastle United and Leicester City have also been heavily linked with the centre-forward over the past few months. And if this was not enough, rumours in Spain are suggesting that Real Madrid could also make a move for the Frenchman.

Arsenal could lose Alexandre Lacazette at the end of the season which is why Mikel Arteta is desperate to add a new striker to his squad. While Odsonne Edouard is without a doubt a top of the line replacement but the Gunners might struggle to meet Celtic’s transfer demands which currently stands at around £35-40 million.
