Serie A side Napoli have chosen to sack their manager Carlo Ancelotti and hour after he helped his side gain promotion to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

A Napoli club statement read: “SSC Napoli has decided to revoke the role of first-team coach from Mr Carlo Ancelotti.

“The rapport of friendship, admiration and reciprocal respect between the club, its president (Aurelio De Laurentiis) and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact.”

And now rumours are ripe that Arsenal might try and make contact with the Italian in order to be the replacement to Unai Emery – after the Spaniard was sacked last week.

While the prospect of Carlo Ancelotti taking charge of the Emirates outfit might seem a very lucrative prospect but according to Graeme Souness, the former Real Madrid boss will not be too eager to manage the North London outfit.

“Would the big managers take Arsenal at the moment? I’m not so sure,” he told Virgin Sport Media via The Standard.

“I don’t think the next man at Arsenal is going to be the one to turn the corner for them. I think there’s a lot of work to be done there, especially with those players.

“I think [Ancelotti] is a big manager and if you look at the jobs he’s had – Real Madrid, PSG, Chelsea – you know Arsenal are a fabulous club, but right now it’s a difficult job, whoever gets it.”

And possibly this very same reason holds true for Everton as well since they have also been linked with Carlo Ancelotti.

The Toffees have parted ways with Marco Silva and they might try and bring in Ancelotti in the coming few weeks but if the mastermind does not wish to take charge at Arsenal then surely he wouldn’t want to head to Goodison Park.

Everton are currently 14th on the league table and are very close to the relegation zone so surely Carlo wouldn’t want to take up such a massive rebuilding job.

While Arsenal too have been poor but they are still better off than the Merseyside outfit. Also, given the players, Unai Emery was able to bring in during his time, there’s still an outside chance that Carlo Ancelotti might want to try his luck at the Emirates.
