According to a report in Football Insider, Scottish Premiership side Celtic FC are eyeing a summer move for goalkeeper Nikita Haikin.

The Bhoys are on the verge of wrapping up another domestic title which is why the club are already making plans for the upcoming transfer window.

Who is the 26-year-old Nikita Haikin?

The keeper currently plays for Bodo Glimt, the club that Celtic FC had faced in Europe earlier this season and he’s been with them since 2019.

The 26-year-old was born in Isreal but currently plays for the Russian national team, having made his debut for them in 2021.

Haikin played in 29 games last season in the Norwegian league and his current contract with the club expires in December of this year. Bodo Glimt are reportedly ready to listen to offers in the coming months rather than lose him for free next year and as per the rumours, the club will accept offer of around £500,000 for his services.

Do Celtic need a goalkeeper right now?

Joe Hart is the undisputed No 1 for Celtic so Nikita Haikin is being eyed as the backup to him for the next campaign.

Vasilis Barkas will be leaving in the summer and since Scott Bain has seen very little game time this season, Ange Postecoglou has decided that he needs to bring in another keeping in the coming months.

Nikita Haikin is not going to dethrone Hart anytime soon but as a backup keeper, the 26-year-old is a very sensible choice. But the main stumbling block for Celtic might be the fact that Premier League side Wolves are also keeping tabs on the Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper.
