Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Rangers FC are set to take on Celtic FC in the season’s first Old Firm Derby this weekend and for Steven Gerrard, this will be the first high profile match that he will be in charge of since being appointed the Rangers manager earlier this summer.

Both the teams have successfully qualified for the Europa League group stages but many believe that the Light Blues will have a slight edge over their Glasgow rivals during the season’s first high profile game.

But Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths feels that his team will have the upper hand in the game simply because Steven Gerrard will be facing his first big opponent this weekend.

Griffiths said“The new manager has come in and he’s got them playing well.

“But it’s a different kettle of fish when they come up against us.

“He’s not come up against a team like us yet.

“Hopefully we’ll do our talking on the pitch on Sunday.”

And we have to agree with the 28-year-old striker 100 per cent given that the Old Firm Derby is easily one of the most unpredictable derbies in the world.

While the Light Blues have come up with a series of authoritative performances since the start of the 2018-19 season but the harsh reality is, Steven Gerrard’s men are yet to be tested by a top-class opponent.

The other major factor that will come into play is the fact that the Gers boss will be taking charge of his first ever Old Firm Derby while his managerial counterpart Brendan Rodgers has already gathered ample experience in that department.
