Celtic legend John Hartson tore into Rangers centre-back Bruno Alves claiming that his dad can perform better than the Portuguese.
Alves joined Rangers on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Cagliari and was supposed to be the marquee signing for former manager Pedro Caixinha.
But during the 2017-18 season, the Portuguese did very little to impress the fans.
Alves managed to play just 25 games in all competitions for the Light Blues – scoring 2 goals.
And now former Celtic legend John Hartson has made some pretty harsh statements towards the 36-year-old.
“Bruno Alves? Cor, what a player he is. At 36 he looks like an old man limping onto the pitch. My dad could have played there and done better,” Hartson said.
“He’s got great experience, yeah, but don’t sign a guy knocking on 37 to deal with Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths. What chance you got?”
But to be fair to Alves, during the second half of the season he fell down the pecking order under then Graeme Murty as the manager chose the likes of David Bates, Russell Martin and Ross McCrorie ahead of the Euro 2016 winner.
Alves turns 37 in November and still has one year left on his contract. But it will be interesting to see if new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard can find Bruno Alves a spot in the first team.
