Scottish Premiership side Celtic and Rangers FC are being linked with Stade Brest’s 26-year-old midfielder Haris Belkebla, according to a report in the Le Buteur.
The report claims: “We learn from reliable sources, the Algerian Haris Belkebla has been in high demand in recent days.
“Contacted by the Glasgow Rangers, the former Valenciennes FC player is faced with a release problem that his leaders in Brest refuse to discuss. Belkebla received another solicitation from the rival Glasgow club, in this case, Glasgow Celtic.
“This training offers an offer deemed interesting which could well change the minds of Breton managers.
“The Algerian is willing to try the adventure, but his sports director has told him that the management of Brest does not want to hear about his transfer.
“In other words Brest, which hopes to confirm its continuation in Ligue 1, has made Belkebla one of its essential elements in anticipation of next season.”
Are Celtic & Rangers keen to sign Haris Belkebla?
Haris Belkebla joined Brest from Tours FC in the summer of 2018 on a free transfer and his current deal with the French club expires in 2022.
Remaining in the top division means Brest should be able to hold onto their top players which is a big reason why the midfielder is not likely to move out in the summer.
This season, Belkebla has featured in 23 Ligue 1 matches during the 2019-20 season but he has neither scored a goal nor provided an assist, so whether he can make a positive impact with either Celtic or Rangers remains of much doubt.
Also, both Celtic, as well as Rangers, are pretty packed up in central midfield so we don’t think the Old Firm clubs will be too eager to spend around a couple of million euros on the Algerian international.
