Portugal staged a fantastic comeback against Spain last night thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo hattrick which helped them snatch a point from the 2010 winners World Cup Spain.

Spain were leading the game 3-2 but an 88th-minute free-kick from the Real Madrid superstar helped Portugal level the game at 3-3.

Ronaldo scored his first goal from the penalty spot while his second goal was more of a gift from David De Gea.

CR7’s 18-yard left-footer was fumbled by the Spanish No 1 and the ball crept into the goal.

This was very uncharacteristic from De Gea who is widely regarded as one of the best keepers in world football.

After the match though Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas and who is also De Gea’s Spanish teammate came out in support of the United shot-stopper.

Fabregas who is currently working as a BBC pundit for the World Cup said: “Yeah we don’t, we don’t (see it often),”

“For me, he is definitely in the top three goalkeepers in the world.

“Again it’s unusual, it’s an unusual mistake. Me and Rio (Ferdinand) played with him, we know how good he is.

“He gives the defence and the team in general so much confidence.

“It’s a shame, I feel bad for him.”

On the other hand, former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand who has played with both Cristiano Ronaldo and David De Gea was all praises for the Portuguese superstar.

Ferdinand said: “It shows you at any level, if you shoot and hit the target, you’ve got a chance,

“People can make mistakes at any level, the highest level, and this guy shoots more often than anyone else.”

With the draw both Spain and Portugal are now on 1 point in Group B meaning that Iran currently top the Group with 3 points after having won their game against Morocco.

Spain next take on Iran on Wednesday while Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal take on Morocco on the very same day.
