Chelsea could be without five defenders when they face Nottingham Forest: How will Lampard cope?

Chelsea will take on Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday but Frank Lampard could have a defensive crisis for this match.

The Blues have a long injury list and in it, most of the names of first-choice defenders. Currently, five defenders are out with injuries and neither of them is likely to be fit for this weekend.

Reece James and Koulibaly are both out for the remainder of the season and they will only return during the summer training camp. James picked up a hamstring injury while Koulibaly has a muscle injury.

Wesley Fofana also has a muscle injury which is why he did not play against Bournemouth last weekend. He could be available for this weekend but with nothing left to play, we don’t think Lampard will risk using him.

Marc Cucurella was initially out for three weeks which means he will be absent as well and to make matters worse, Ben Chilwell injured his hamstring in the Cherries game.

Chelsea have the biggest squad in the Premier League but still, the full-back positions are going to be a problem. Neither of the two left-backs is likely to be available on Saturday which means either Chalobah or Azpilicueta will have to play on the left.

Chalobah has played at right-back a few times this season which means the vastly experienced Azpi will have to slot on the other side.

Chelsea are currently 11th on the Premier League table and their only motivation now is to finish in the top half of the table. Fofana could be fit in time but it makes no sense to risk putting him on and risking further injury.

Fofana’s possible absence means Badiashile and Thiago Silva will pair up in central defence and the duo should be enough to keep the Nottingham Forest attackers at bay.
