Chelsea are reportedly out in the market looking for a new centre-back and one of the names being linked with the Premier League side is that of Sevilla Jules Kounde.

The Athletic are claiming that Tuchel wants to strengthen the defensive areas before the new season begins and so the Blues could make a move for the 22-year-old in the coming months.

Jules Kounde joined Sevilla from Bordeaux in 2019 and during the 2020-21 season, the central defender has played in 34 La Liga matches for the Spanish side. He has done fairly well this past campaign but according to Mundo Deportivo, Sevilla have decided to cash in on him during the ongoing transfer window.

The report claims: “Jules Koundé, concentrated with France preparing the Euros, has been put on the market and the reactions have not been long in coming. The Andalusian club has taken notice and already sets its conditions.

“The Andalusian club has taken notice and already sets its conditions. Manchester City wanted him a year ago but the Andalusian club rejected an offer for 55 million. It is still a low proposition.

“In Seville they assure that neither the president Pepe Castro nor the sports director Monchi have been altered by this new situation.

“They are clear about it. The starting point is the 80 million of its termination clause, although for a slightly lower amount. They speak of between 65 and 70 million(euros).”

With Thiago Silva almost at the end of his playing career, Thomas Tuchel is in need of a long-term replacement and at 56 million pounds, Kounde could turn out to be the ideal signing.

The price is undoubtedly a bit steep but the Sevilla man still has three more years left on his current deal and he is just 22 years old. So ideally, he will be at least be a five-year project should Chelsea get their hands on him.

Thomas Tuchel does have players like Christensen and Kurt Zouma who can act as backup for Thiago Silva but if the club’s going after someone like Jules Kounde there’s a big chance that the Chelsea boss might be thinking of offloading some defenders this summer.
