Chelsea have some real problems despite their UCL win vs Atletico: What are those?

Chelsea beat Atletico Madrid in the Champions League this week and the 1-0 win means the Premier League side have managed to pick up that all-crucial away goal.

The Blues had five shots on target during the match and the one that went into the back of the net was a superb overhead volley from Olivier Giroud. The goal was a show of individual brilliance but according to former Chelsea player Frank Leboeuf, the Blues might struggle to keep Atletico Madrid at bay in the second leg.

“As always, there’s question marks over what they are going to do in the last 30 yards,” Frank Leboeuf said on ESPN.

“I tried to analyse why they don’t create more chances. It’s because most of the time, the four players who have the ball are (Cesar) Azpilicueta, Jorginho, (Mateo) Kovacic and Marcos Alonso.

“They never take on players, maybe Kovacic did once in the second half.

“They give the ball away five yards from the opponent. They don’t move or create an unbalanced moment for the opponents. It’s why they don’t create anything. And it’s why I’m a bit worried for the second leg.

“Mount won’t be there for the second leg. Which is going to be a problem. The only one who can create something right now for Chelsea, except something exceptional from Giroud, is Mount.”

Apart from Mason Mount, Jorginho is also suspended for the second leg meaning N’Golo Kante will get to play in the defensive midfielder’s role. And as far as the absence of Mason Mount is concerned, Kai Havertz should come into the side due to the England international’s suspension.

Havertz has the talent to carve open a team like Atletico Madrid but the German international has been a flop so far this season and we doubt if Thomas Tuchel will lay his full faith in him.

With Mount, ruled out, we are more likely to see Christian Pulisic come into the starting line-up for the second leg rather than summer signing Kai Havertz.
