Alvaro Morata
Alvaro Morata playing for Chelsea

Alvaro Morata has been struggling to find form ever since he joined Chelsea and under Maurizio Sarri things have not really changed for the better.

Yes, the former Real Madrid man has scored five goals in nine appearances this season but most often than not the striker has looked disoriented infront of goal.

Alvaro Morata has failed to secure a regular spot under Maurizio Sarri with the Spaniard often being replaced by Olivier Giroud towards the end of the games.

And now, the Chelsea boss has come out to compare Alvaro Morata with one of his former players by branding the striker as mentally fragile.

“It’s difficult,” Sarri told said.

“At Empoli, I had a wonderful player, Riccardo Saponara, who we sold to AC Milan.

“Saponara was one of the best players I have ever seen, but a little bit mentally fragile.

“Alvaro has scored four or five goals in his last six matches, so I cannot see a big problem. I hope that there will be more this season.

“Every season he scores 15 or 16 goals, so he’s around his average [goal return]. I speak with him every week, but on the pitch he is alone.

“I think that at the moment he’s not playing to his full potential. It’s difficult.”

If you include the five goals that Alvaro Morata has scored this season, then the striker has managed to score just six goals in the Premier League during this calendar year.

Maurizio Sarri has often opted for Olivier Giroud whenever the Blues are in need of goals and if Morata fails to become the impact man real quick then he will eventually have to find a new club.
