Chelsea news Willian

Chelsea thumped four goals past Southampton in their previous Premier League game right before the international break and this upcoming weekend they take on Newcastle United at home.

The Blues started the new season with a 4-0 loss to Man United but since then Frank Lampard’s men have gotten things back on track and right now they sit fifth on the league table – with the same number of points as fourth-placed Leicester City.

Chelsea have so far won four out of their first 8 matches and there is a big buzz around Stamford Bridge that their team might be able to keep their Champions League status after a decent start to the new season.

On paper, this should be an easy game for the London outfit since the Magpies have dropped points in four out of their past five matches but Newcastle United are flying high after beating Man United 1-0 in their last league game.

And this will surely be at the back of Lampard’s mind when he names his starting XI for the Chelsea vs Newcastle United clash this weekend.

Chelsea news vs Newcastle Utd:

During the international break, Chelsea suffered a number of injury blows with the likes of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic picking up knocks while playing for their respective national sides.

Kante suffered a groin injury during warm-up for France and was immediately withdrawn from the squad. But latest reports have suggested the injury to his abductor muscle is not too serious since he did not play any further part during the international break and should be fit to take on Newcastle United.

Kovacic also picked up a knock while playing for Croatia earlier this week but like Kante, he too is not seriously injured and should be available for selection.

And with both these players fully fit(possibly), they should start in midfield alongside Jorginho.

In the defensive region though the Chelsea manager is not too lucky since Andreas Christensen and Emerson are expected to miss the Chelsea vs Newcastle United game due to respective injuries.

Antonio Rudiger is reportedly trying to make himself fit for the match but as per reports, the manager will not risk using him which means Kurt Zouma and Tomori will start in central defence while Marcos Alonso starts in place of Emerson.

Callum-Hudson Odoi is fully fit after his horror injury and he is more or less a guaranteed starter.

Mason Mount has also been in fine form but there are hints that the manager might give the youngster some rest in which case Willian should come into the first XI.

Olivier Giroud had recently said he wants to get more game time under the new boss but the Frenchman will once again have to be content with a place on the bench for the Chelsea vs Newcastle United clash as Tammy Abraham starts upfront for the Blues.
