Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens has suddenly become the talk of the town after attracting interest from Manchester United. According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have now also made a formal enquiry regarding the winger.

Apart from Man United and Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have also been scouting the English winger for a few months but the two English giants seem to have set the ball rolling in the hopes of a January transfer.

Who is Jamie Gittens and what are his talents?

This season, Gittens has made 10 goal contributions in 18 league appearances with an xG of 2.44 and an xA of 3.06.

He has created 14 major chances and has 18 shots on targets and his pace and trickery make him an exciting watch. He is great at breaking down opposition defences and low blocks but the 20-year-old is still not very tactically aware, something he can work on and improve.

The youngster was initially a product of Man City’s academy before joining Dortmund in 2020 and his performances have been compared to those of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham.

Talking about pure stats, Jamie Gittens is averaging 3.74 successful take-ons per 90 minutes along with 2.98 shots per 90 minutes. He is an out-and-out attack-minded player which is quite evident from his 5.88 touches in the attacking penalty area per 90 minutes.

Will Chelsea get him before Manchester United?

Man United are about to sell Alejandro Garnacho whose been linked with a move to Napoli while Marcus Rashford’s career at the club has also come to a standstill. In such a scenario, Ruben Amorim needs to bring in a new left-winger which is why the club’s interest in Jamie Gittens.

Chelsea are also in a similar situation with the imminent departures of Nkunku, Mudryk and possibly Joao Felix. Enzo Maresca is getting rid of all the unwanted first-teamers and now he is slowly bringing in players who can suit his long-term plans.

Both teams can do with someone like Jamie Gittens who is currently one of the most exciting talents in the Bundesliga but we don’t think either of them is expected to get their hands on the winger this month.

To fend off suitors, Borussia Dortmund have set a €100 million price tag on Gittens and the main reason for that is they do not want to sign him during the middle of the season.

The transfer expert believes a fee of around €50 million will be enough to secure a deal but BVB will only listen to offers at the end of this campaign. Both Chelsea and Man United can very easily pay €50 million but with his contract set to expire in 2028, Dortmund are in no haste.

The only way they will be able to convince BVB is by putting a crazy amount on the table but the situation these two are in right now, neither of them will want to take this approach.
