3-4-1-2 Chelsea’s predicted line up vs Salzburg: Will Aubameyang be on the bench?

Chelsea take on Salzburg at home in the Champions League this week and despite fears, The Athletic are claiming that this match is not going to be postponed.

Chelsea’s league game for the weekend was postponed due to the demise of the Queen but their UCL game at Stamford Bridge will go ahead as scheduled.

This will be the first game in charge for new manager Graham Potter and all eyes will be on him to see how his team responds to the shock 1-0 loss to Zagreb last week.

Potter will have a clean slate and this will be his first ever European game in charge. On paper, this one should be an easy win for Chelsea because they are unbeaten in their previous six home games but Salzburg themselves haven’t lost in their last four away matches so they can unquestionably make like challenging for the Blues.

Chelsea’s team news vs Salzburg:

Thiago Silva was rested for the Dinamo game but the Brazilian will come back into the side and take charge in central defence, alongside Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana.

N’Golo Kante is the only Chelsea player missing with an injury and the Frenchman is not to be available this week as well.

Jorginho started on the bench last week but we expect Graham Potter to bring him back into the side. Potter has Denis Zakaria at his disposal but we think he will put his faith in Mateo Kovacic as Jorginho’s central midfield partner.

Ben Chilwell had been coming off the bench under Thomas Tuchel and he is going to have the same role this week as well because Graham Potter and Cucurella share a great relationship.

Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Pulisic will all be fighting it out for the attacking midfielder’s position and we think for his first match in charge, Potter is going to use Mount in that role.

Aubameyang played 60 minutes on his Chelsea debut and he is a definite starter for the Salzburg match as well, alongside Raheem Sterling.

Chelsea predicted line up vs Salzburg:

Predicted Starting XI(3-4-1-2): Mendy; Silva, Koulibaly, Fofana; Cucurella, Jorginho, Kovacic, Reece James; Mount; Aubameyang, Sterling.
