Chelsea were supposed to be one of the title contenders in the Premier League this season but with each passing game, the Blues are losing ground on Manchester City.

Last weekend they lost 1-0 to Guardiola’s side and then in midweek, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton. The two lapses mean are 12 points behind the league leaders and they have also played a game more than City.

Things are surely not going to get any more comfortable for Thomas Tuchel since his side now have to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday. Last weekend Chelsea knocked Spurs out of the Carabao Cup but the Lilywhites go into this PL game with their tails up after a fantastic win against Leicester City in midweek.

After the draw vs Brighton, Thomas Tuchel acknowledged that his players are tired after playing such intense games back to back and there has been gossip that the manager could opt to bring in some of the benchwarmers on Sunday.

Talking to the press after the 1-1 draw, Tuchel admitted: ‘We weren’t able to press home the advantage after our goal because we are tired. We are mentally tired and physically tired and you can see it in our performance. It’s as easy as that.’

Chelsea’s team vs Tottenham Hotspur:

With Edouard Mendy out, Kepa will once again start in goal but the defensive line infront of him should see modifications.

Against Brighton, Chelsea played with a traditional back-four but for the Spurs game, Tuchel is likely to revert to his usual 3-4-2-1 system. And with Chalobah out, Azpilicueta is the one who is going to play as the third centre-back.

Reece James is out with a hamstring injury and he’s not expected to make a comeback before the break which means Hudson-Odoi is the one who is going to occupy the right wing-back’s role. And with Ben Chilwell out for the rest of the season, Marcos Alonso will be playing as the left wing-back.

Kante and Jorginho paired up in central midfield but against Spurs, one of them is surely going to drop to the bench as Mateo Kovacic comes into the side.

Thomas Tuchel could be looking to make rotations to his starting line up on Sunday and if this prediction comes true then both Havertz and Timo Werner is likely to come back into the side.

Werner could be leading the line alongside Romelu Lukaku while Havertz might be deployed in the final third – in place of Hakim Ziyech.

Both Ziyech and Mason Mount had really poor outings vs Brighton and both of them should move the bench on Sunday. Lukaku has also been very much below par in the past few months but we don’t think the Chelsea boss is going to drop him from the starting line up in such a key encounter.

Chelsea predicted line up vs Spurs:

Predicted Starting Line up(3-4-1-2): Kepa; Rudiger, Thiago Silva, Azpilicueta; Hudson-Odoi, Alonso, Kante/Jorginho, Kovacic; Havertz, Werner, Romelu Lukaku.
