Chelsea are all set to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco at a fee of around £35 million.

If this deal goes through then this will be Chelsea’s first signing of the summer. The dynamic midfielder has been a mainstay for the Monaco midfield and has contributed largely towards Monaco’s fine season. Chelsea has long been on the trail of the 22-year-old French international. And it looks as if finally the deal has been completed.

The transfer was lingering on for quite some time as the involved parties failed to reach an agreement. But as per reports, the transfer fee has been agreed upon and the move is now subject to personal terms.

Bakayoko
Bakayoko has made 14 key passes for Monaco last season in Ligue 1.

Bakayoko has been instrumental for Monaco in beating PSG to the Ligue 1 title. The Frenchman has made 32 appearances for the club scoring twice. His arrival at Stamford Bridge will obviously boost Chelsea’s midfield as the Blues get back to playing Champions League football. But his arrival also means that a few players might well be on the way out of Chelsea. And one such player is Nemanja Matic.

Bakayoko
Nemanja Matic’s position in the team could be seriously affected with Bakayoko’s arrival.

Bakayoko reportedly also had interest from Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United. And it was one of the main reasons as to why the deal took such a long time.

Antonio Conte has had a wonderful first season with Chelsea winning the Premier League with some authority. Now the Blues are back in the Champions League and Conte wants to strengthen his squad to be able to compete with Europe’s best. And the signing of Bakayoko might just be the first step towards that.

Chelsea are also likely to release striker Diego Costa after Conte has told him that the Spaniard is not wanted at the Bridge next season.
