Chelsea defeated Manchester City 2-1 to further consolidate their top position in the League table. Chelsea saw a brace from Belgian Eden Hazard to give Antonio Conte’s men all the three points.

With this win, Conte has managed to do something which no other manager could. He has actually defeated a Pep Guardiola side twice in the same season. Yes, before this Guardiola had never lost to the same side more than once in a single season. This was a rather small silver lining to an otherwise wonderful performance by Chelsea.

Chelsea took the lead in the 10th minute of the match when Hazard’s shot deflected of Vicent Kompany and beat City’s goalkeeper. City, however, went back on level terms in the 26th minute after a poor clearance from Courtois fell to David Silva who set up Aguero to score.

Just ten minute before half-time Chelsea were awarded a penalty after City’s Fernandinho fouled Pedro. Hazard stepped up to take the shop kick but it was brilliantly saved by Cabellero. But the rebound fell into the path of Hazard and he neatly tucked it into the back of the net. City did create a few chances in the second half of the match but could not capitalize on any of them.

The win takes Conte’s men seven points clear of second-placed Chelsea. But Pep Guardiola had different views after the match. He claimed that his side was the better team throughout the match but Chelsea took all the three points. He pointed out to similar happenings in the previous encounter at the Etihad. Manchester City were by far the better team in that match but as luck would have it Chelsea walked back to London with the points. Guardiola also added that he was very much happy with how his players performed and that it was an honour for him to manage them.
