Chelsea team news vs Leicester City: Edouard Mendy to return in goal?

Kepa Arrizabalaga Chelsea

Chelsea lost their FA Cup final to Leicester City on Saturday at Wembley but Thomas Tuchel will have no time to sit back and sulk since his side take on the Foxes once again in midweek.

This time both sides meet on the Premier League stage and the outcome of this game will have a big effect on how the top four will look at the end of next week. If Chelsea fail to pick up a win then Liverpool have the chance to overtake them and occupy the final Champions League spot on the table.

The Blues go into this match having suffered back-to-back losses, first against Arsenal and then the FA Cup defeat to Leicester. So the Chelsea players will need to get back to winning ways this week or all their hard work over the past few months will go down the drain.

Tuchel is sure to make a few changes to his starting line-up which took the field at Wembley but the manager will need his forward players to fire if he wishes to pick up three points at the Bridge.

Chelsea team news vs Leicester City:

Kepa Arrizabalaga started in goal in the final and this took a lot of people by surprise. The keeper was beaten by a superb striker from Tielemans but other than that, he did not do much wrong.

But still, the Blues manager will bring Edouard Mendy into the side as Kepa moves back to the bench.

Christensen still remains a doubt with a hamstring injury and if he is not fit then Reece James could once again play in the three-man backline. But personally, we think Kurt Zouma is going to be called back into the side as James moves to the wing-back’s role.

Kante and Jorginho should pair up in defensive midfield once again since there’s no guarantee if Mateo Kovacic will be fully fit or not. If Kovacic is fit then he is a sure shot starter in place of Jorginho.

Ben Chilwell came off the bench at Wembley and had a second-half goal disallowed. But the full-back is likely to get a start against his former side in midweek.

Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech were both misfiring in the FA Cup final and it will not be a total surprise to see both of them being dropped since Thomas Tuchel has perfect backups in the form of Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz.

Olivier Giroud will also be itching for a start but with three points at stake, we don’t think the Chelsea manager will want to take any gambles with his team selection.
