Chelsea team news vs Man United: Giroud to keep Tammy Abraham on the bench?

Chelsea beat Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday and next up, they take on Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend.

The Blues are currently fifth on the league table – two points away from the final UCL spot but if West Ham United can beat Man City on Saturday then that gap will go up by another three points. Thankfully, Man City are the best time in England right now so there’s very slight chance that they will lose to David Moyes’ side meaning Chelsea will have the chance to get back into the top-four if they beat Man United on Sunday.

Chelsea are undefeated in 10 of their last 11 home matches in the Premier League and they have managed to keep clean sheets in their previous three league games. Under the new boss, the Blues have really upped their game and after the win vs Atletico, their tails will certainly be up.

Thomas Tuchel has only one injury concern going into this match so he will have very little excuse if things turn sideways for the London outfit this weekend.

Chelsea team news vs Man United:

Edouard Mendy will remain in goal and the backline in front of him is also not likely to change on Sunday.

Thiago Silva is on the brink of a return but we doubt if Tuchel will want to use a player who is not a 100% in such a crunch game. Also, the trio of Rudiger, Christensen and Azpilicueta have done more than a decent job so the new manager will stick with them.

N’Golo Kante will be pushing for a start on Sunday but Jorginho has performed pretty well alongside Mateo Kovacic in midfield and Thomas Tuchel should use the same pair against Manchester United as well.

Marcos Alonso has been keeping Ben Chilwell on the bench ever since Thomas Tuchel has taken over but we think the England international will get the nod this weekend.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has been asked to pull up his socks by the new boss but Tuchel really likes the youngster which is why Hudson-Odoi will start as the right wing-back ahead of Reece James.

Mason Mount has been in peak form in the past few weeks and he will be one of the first names on the teamsheet at the Bridge.

Timo Werner is still struggling to find his best form and it will not be a surprise if the manager chooses to rest him and bring Kai Havertz back into the side.

Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic have been warming the benches ever since Frank Lampard was sacked and on Sunday they will once again have the same job.

Olivier Giroud scored the only goal of the match against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday and the Frenchman should retain his place in the starting line-up on Sunday meaning Tammy Abraham will have to be content with a place on the bench.
